The 10 Most Important Fashion Basics

As a little girl, I loved wearing this one, long, dark blue cloth dress from my mother. It may sound like a cliche, but I felt like a grown-up princess strutting through our house and wondering what other outfit could suit a sublime lady. And to be honest, my thoughts are still very often about clothes. “What should I wear?” Is probably the most frequently asked question for myself. Birthday party, university, date in the evening, lunch with a friend, work … The challenge is not too rigorous or completely under dressed. Real style and rigid fashion specifications don’t go together. Dressing should be fun. Our clothes express to a certain extent who we are. Here you will find 10 tips for the most important basics for every wardrobe to develop your own style and fun in fashion.

The basics for every wardrobe – or “key pieces”

There are many different opinions about which basics every woman should have in her wardrobe. It is important that the basics do not necessarily have to be “basic”. As Lauren Conrad says, they should fit your own style and form the basis on which your wardrobe is built. The following 10 most important “key pieces” to develop your own look are versatile and form the basis of your wardrobe.

1. The little black dress: One of the best creations ever: Thank you Coco Chanel! The simple black dress is highly convertible with just a few accessories. You can combine it with either a denim jacket and sandals (bohemian), black pumps, clutch and eye-catching jewelry (evening), with a long cardigan and flat ballerinas (casual) or a rock leather jacket and gladiator sandals (edgy).

2. Jeans: Well fitting jeans are a must in every wardrobe. Black and blue jeans are versatile: they are particularly advantageous and look finer. In the meantime – in the past I had the opposite opinion – white jeans in my wardrobe are also an absolute key piece. Only recently did I buy one for the first time and it more than enriched my wardrobe. So many tops (dark blue, flowered, colored, etc.) look so much better combined with white pants, especially in summer!

3. White blouse: A true classic and still up to date: A white blouse looks great on every woman! Whether tailored to jeans and high heels or a flared skirt – or as an oversized look over the bikini on the beach.

4. Rock: Maybe not a must-have for everyone, but almost indispensable for me. Skirts are versatile. And especially an elegant black skirt for a party or a dinner (combined either with ballerinas and t-shirt or high heels and blouse) should not be missing in the wardrobe.

5. Black and white tops: Most garments have a black or white top. No matter what fabric: cotton, jersey, chiffon or silk. “It’s a perfect example of what makes a key piece: it’s not the most striking part of an outfit, but it’s the link that holds the whole look together without distracting from the eye-catcher.” (Lauren Conrad)

6. Cardigan: The cardigan is so versatile. Perfect for the layered look, but also indispensable in combination with the little black dress. I always find this look particularly chic: blue jeans, white t-shirt and gray cardigan. Spiced up with a colored handbag and matching earrings, this simple look is also an eye-catcher.

7. Blazer: The blazer instantly enhances your outfit. I prefer a black blazer – elegant and straight cut – combined with a white t-shirt and skinny jeans or combined with a feminine skirt for the evening.

8. Coat: A well-fitting coat always looks great with a casual but also with a more elegant outfit! You can wear almost anything: jeans, trousers, sneakers or high heels.

9. Denim jacket: Maybe not a key piece for everyone, but I have so many outfits that a denim jacket looks really great. Perfect for summer evenings to pull over or to make your outfit look more casual.

10. Leather jacket: You have to search for a long time, but once you have found the right leather jacket, you don’t want to give it up. It extremely enhances most outfits and gives them a rocky and cool touch.

Great outfit, but no shoes

I often face this situation. I don’t have the right shoes! So, the fashion basics for every woman definitely include shoes. A little tip: go through your closet and think about which shoes are still missing for certain outfits. Over time, the following shoes developed into basics for me: black ballerinas, sneakers (colored and white), colored and black sandals, black pumps and black and brown ankle boots.
And don’t forget: colored handbags and eye-catching jewelry can also greatly enhance your look. A little tip at the end: an outfit looks particularly harmonious when handbag and shoes match.
