The New Femininity, We Can Wear Anything

Never before have we been able to find our own style as carefree as we do today. If our mothers and grandmothers often asked themselves what they can, should or should be able to wear, we live in the age of wanting today. Trend after trend, our options became more diverse – and we became more courageous. We want to celebrate that!

Feminine is what we make of it: pants

Nowadays, women all over the world slip into culottes, chinos, jeans & co. And celebrate their everyday life there. Sometimes wide or skin-tight, sometimes in 7/8 length or rolled up, sometimes in denim or in leather, sometimes in delicate pink or patterned. With trousers, we simply feel wonderfully free, completely comfortable and wonderfully feminine. Hard to believe: It has only been 80 years since women in France had to get a wearing permit from the local police because they were forbidden to put on pants for pleasure. This law was only abolished in 2007.

In Germany it was Marlene Dietrich who conquered her right to pants on her own. The actress didn’t care about conventions and put on what she liked. Her style was elegant and boyish: wide suit pants, white blouses, often in combination with a dandy hat. The namesake of Marlene relaxed with her self-confident appearance the rigid skirts and dress code of the time. Nevertheless, it took a while for women to move freely in pants. In 1970, politician Lenelotte von Bothmer caused a scandal when she decided to give a speech in a beige trouser suit in the Bundestag. Her courage went through the press and was largely rewarded with insults.

A nice shirt can also delight

Isn’t it nice to be a woman? In the business context in particular, it sometimes seems to us that men, with their always the same shirt and tie combinations in shades of gray to black, are the losers in fashion history. In the meantime, we can beautify our everyday life with colorful dresses, skirts, blouses, pantsuits and yes, even shirts. The business shirt is one of these items of clothing that we have gradually adopted and that now conjures up even more variety in our wardrobes. As a loose shirt dress, we bring the former office classic to the beach. And even in the casual boyfriend look, shirts look great on us and underline our femininity.

Mini, Midi, Maxi – what the skirt length doesn’t say about us anymore

When the fashion world changes, one is always part of it: the rock. Hardly any other piece of clothing has been varied and reinvented so often. Today we love it in all possible shapes, colors and above all: lengths. This was not the case for a long time. Only the golden twenties promised wild freedom for us and our calves. In the forties, the popularity of uniforms made knee-length pencil skirts modern for the first time. The greatest rock revolution was created by Mary Quant when her mini skirts appeared in Vogue in 1962 and became the epitome of sexual liberation for women. Another extreme followed shortly after: the flowing maxi dresses of the hippie movement. And today? Let us say one thing above all with our skirt length: we are us. We wear what we want and what we like.

So close to heaven

Every woman knows the feeling. We slip into high heels and know immediately: these are not just shoes with heels. In high heels we grow beyond ourselves. The right pair not only makes us beautiful legs, it flatters our curves, corners and edges and also gives us the extra portion of self-confidence. Incidentally, this is not a purely female phenomenon: Louis XIV was already in high gear with heels and cleverly cheated himself up to ten centimeters taller.

He went even further for his shoe hobby. In 1670 he decreed that only he and his male followers had the right to wear red-heeled shoes. You do everything for your loved ones! Marlene Dietrich also contributed to the distribution of high heels – she swore by paragraphs and was featured on almost all public occasions. So that shoes are hardly missing in any wardrobe today. Whether strappy sandals in summer, stillettos for afterwork or leo pumps for Saturday shopping. We are as happy as a king that they exist.
